This is one of the two King in Black anthology books。 This one collects stories featuring Scream, the Ravencroft staff (John Jameson and Misty Knight), American Kaiju, the new Toxin, Cloak & Dagger, the new Hornet and the Black Knight (Dane’s story is the only book-length tale in this collection and guest stars Aero and Sword-Master)。As with most anthology titles, featuring work from many different creative teams, the quality is wildly variable。 There’s some really good stuff in here (I’m excite This is one of the two King in Black anthology books。 This one collects stories featuring Scream, the Ravencroft staff (John Jameson and Misty Knight), American Kaiju, the new Toxin, Cloak & Dagger, the new Hornet and the Black Knight (Dane’s story is the only book-length tale in this collection and guest stars Aero and Sword-Master)。As with most anthology titles, featuring work from many different creative teams, the quality is wildly variable。 There’s some really good stuff in here (I’m excited about the new Hornet and the Black Knight’s new book and it’s always great to see Cloak & Dagger) and some not-so-good stuff (I really could do without all these other symbiote-powered characters and American Kaiju is just a joke of a character)。I gave each story a mark for the writing and a mark for the artwork and, as usually happens with anthology titles, it averaged out to 3 stars。My next book: King in Black: Return of the Valkyries 。。。more

Mostly a collection of shorts。 Some good, others forgettable, but the real highlight is the Black Knight one shot。 The art by Jesús Saiz is gorgeous and it’s a fun story that sets up the character’s upcoming miniseries。 Looking forward to it。

Planet Of The Symbiotes is basically an anthology book - each of the three issues included two or more stories, and they're all collected here for better or worse, alongside the Black Knight one-shot which didn't fit elsewhere。It's an anthology book, so your mileage may vary。 Some of these stories are pretty good - any follow-up on Scream's status quo is appreciated given how her solo series was unceremoniously cancelled, and while I'm still bitter about the loss of Pat Mulligan, I was glad to s Planet Of The Symbiotes is basically an anthology book - each of the three issues included two or more stories, and they're all collected here for better or worse, alongside the Black Knight one-shot which didn't fit elsewhere。It's an anthology book, so your mileage may vary。 Some of these stories are pretty good - any follow-up on Scream's status quo is appreciated given how her solo series was unceremoniously cancelled, and while I'm still bitter about the loss of Pat Mulligan, I was glad to see Toxin again too。Some stories were less impressive - American Kaiju goes nowhere, and the Cloak & Dagger one feels like it wants to say more, but only has 10 pages to do it in, so it fails to make an impact。 The Ravencroft story follows up on the Ruins Of Ravencroft one-shots, but again feels more like a primer for something else than a complete story on its own。The Black Knight one-shot also serves as a bit of a prelude to Si Spurrier's Curse Of The Ebony Blade mini-series, but it has more pages available so it's a bit more complete。 There's some nice character work, especially when Aero and Sword Master show up, and Jesus Saiz's artwork is gorgeous。I feel like some of the Planet Of The Symbiotes stories would have been better served with either their own one-shots, or an oversized page count so they could breathe a little better。 As it is, most of them are okay, but are hamstrung by the shortness of the stories。 。。。more

I guess I didn’t learn my lesson from Absolute Carnage。 This particular set of tie-ins are strictly filler, extra comics with the King in Black logo on it to suckers like me。 Planet of the Symbiotes is mostly inoffensive but utterly forgettable。
